Residency Application Process

The Neurosurgery Residency Program consists of seven-years of clinical training and accepts two positions each year filled through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).  Our NRMP code is 1848160C0.

The service is divided between the University of Kentucky and the Veteran’s Administrative Hospital.

How to Apply

Applications for each recruitment year, which begins in September, should be completed by October 31.  We do not require anything further than the ERAS application requirements. *USLME step 1 results by the application deadline*

Applications for this program are only accepted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).

When the review process is complete and applicants for interview have been determined, all those selected will be notified by email simultaneously, followed by telephone calls if no response is received within 24 hours.  Appointments are scheduled based on the order in which applicants respond because we can only accommodate a limited number of candidates each date.

The NRMP code is 1848160C0

Interview Information

All interviewees are invited to dinner with our residents the evening prior to their interview; spouses/significant others are welcome to attend.  We understand travel constraints may make it difficult to attend this dinner and attendance is not mandatory, but you are strongly encouraged to attend if possible.  These casual dinners provide opportunity for candidates to learn more about the program as well as Lexington.
