Residency Application Process

The Neurosurgery Residency Program consists of seven-years of clinical training and accepts two residents per year.  We participate in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) http://www.nrmp.org/.  The service is divided between the University of Kentucky and the Veteran’s Administrative Hospital (VAMC). 

Applications to the University of Kentucky Neurosurgery Residency Program are accepted solely through the Electronic Residency Application Services (ERAS) https://www.aamc.org/students/medstudents/eras/.  Required documents consist of MyERAS application, personal statement, Medical Student Performance Evaluation, LoR, transcripts (medical school, USMLE, COMLEX), and a photograph.

Interview Dates: October 11, November 15, November 29, & December 6

All neurosurgery residents are required to complete three months each of neurology and neurosurgery training in their PGY1 categorical year with the remaining six months in general surgery assigned by the Neurosurgery Program Director.

Interview Information

The Department has a block of rooms held for resident recruits and will provide transportation to and from the hospital.  There is a dinner Wednesday evening with the residents; attendance is not mandatory but encouraged.  Thursday interviews will begin at 8:00am concluding around 2:30pm.  Additional information will be provided by the program coordinator once your interview is scheduled.
